One of my favourite books when I was younger was a book by Pierre Burton called The Secret World Of Og.
Not only were the illustrations fabulous, I remember reading it and getting completely lost in the story.
Brief synopsis: Penny, Pamela, Peter and Patsy start out on an adventure searching for their youngest brother Paul who disappeared from their playhouse. They find a secret trap door (in said house) that leads them to the World Of Og.
I'm dusting off my copy and flipping through it right after I post this.
